Rooted in
something bigger.
Scissortail Farm was built on a simple belief: children are capable of more than we sometimes give them the opportunity to discover.
Nestled on 40 acres in the Loudoun Valley, Scissortail Farm is a family-run farm where children are encouraged to learn by doing. Here, lessons happen in the barn, the garden, the pasture and everywhere in between.
Whether they're caring for an animal, learning where their food comes from or simply getting their hands dirty, children have the opportunity to build confidence, responsibility and a deeper connection to the world around them.
A different kind of classroom.
Meet
Alexandra ardelean
Teacher. Horsewoman. Farmer. Founder.
For Alexandra Ardelean, Scissortail Farm brings together two lifelong passions: teaching children and working with animals.
Alex has spent more than 20 years as an educator and more than 30 years riding and working with horses. Her journey has taken her from therapeutic riding and ranches across the West to ranch management in Tennessee and show-jumping instruction in Chicago.
Today, Alex and her family call 40 acres in Round Hill, Virginia home. Scissortail gives her the opportunity to combine everything she's learned into a place where children can experience education a little differently, with animals to care for, land to explore and plenty of room to grow.
